Black Capricios 98

Black Capricios, 1998-2001.  This ensemble is made out of stoneware and named “Capricios”. I borrowed this title from Goya because my work has something similar to the dark expression of his Capricios: “sleeping reason gives birth to monsters”.

Are these bizarre shapes coming from outer space, from planets like Mars, or from the darkness of deep seas?  Certainly, from my subconscious.

The basic ball of each of my ‘Capricios’ gives a sense of cosmic rotation towards the sun. The ball, like a seed, explodes in germs of good and evil, of beauty and ugliness in powerful signs.
